The Sell-Off
The $5 Yeezy Isn't Fake. It's What's Left of the Biggest Crash in Streetwear.
In late 2022, one of the most hyped brands on the planet lost every partner it had — almost overnight. The stock didn't vanish. It was liquidated out the back door, in bulk, for next to nothing. We bought as much of it as we could. Here's the full story — and why a tee that retailed at $120 now costs $5.

To understand the price, you have to understand the peak. A few years ago Yeezy was one of the biggest brand stories on the planet — a ten-year Gap deal that moved Gap's stock as much as 40% in a single day, Balenciaga's Demna engineering the line, a plain hoodie hitting $240 and selling out anyway. To meet that demand, everything was manufactured at insane global volume. Then, in late 2022, Ye made a string of controversial comments — and every brand and retailer attached to the name had exactly one job: get away from it, fast. Deals signed for a decade were dead within weeks, and a mountain of already-made product was suddenly something nobody in fashion wanted their name near.
The resale market didn't dip. It fell off a cliff — and kept falling.
Here's the part nobody tells you. All that stock didn't get sold out the front at markdown. It got moved out the back — palletized, bagged in bulk and pushed through liquidation channels for whatever it would bring. Tees that retailed between $120 and $300 and sneakers that traded above $2,000 were changing hands for pennies on the dollar, because nobody wanted to be the one caught holding it.
It didn't sell out the front. It went out the back — pallets, bulk, liquidation. That flood is what set the price.
Then the story turned. Ye apologised, the noise died down, and demand did what demand always does when the product was genuinely good: it came back. But the stock that was panic-dumped had already left the system — sold by the pallet to whoever was willing to buy when everyone else was selling. That's us. We bought heavy at the bottom: pallet after pallet of factory-sealed Yeezy Gap stock, now racked in our Los Angeles warehouse. Our cost basis was set by the crash, so the same engineered tee that launched at $120 — the one where the wash tag reads Balenciaga and the size tag reads Yeezy — is $5 here. Not because something's wrong with it. Because we'd rather move volume than sit on margin.

The heaviest t-shirt I have ever owned — the quality is top notch.
The questions everyone asks
Is it actually real?
Yes — genuine deadstock from the Yeezy Gap line, sourced as bulk factory archive overstock after the partnerships ended. Not a replica, not a reprint. Check the wash tag when it lands.
What size should I get?
It's a boxy, oversized, heavyweight cut — most buyers size down one from their usual. Full measurements are on the product page.
How fast does it ship?
It's in-hand in our LA warehouse and ships fast across the US, tracked.
What if I change my mind?
Change-of-mind returns are accepted on the $5 tees — email support@theretailer.com.au and the team will sort you out.
It's not fake, and it's not a catch. It's timing: the market crashed, the stock got dumped, we bought heavy, and the recovery hasn't reached our racks yet. $5 a tee, in-hand, shipped fast from LA — until the crash-era stock runs out. There is no restock button on a collaboration that no longer exists.
